Maria Bourn has dedicated her career to zealously representing employees discriminated against based on their gender, race, ethnicity, or disability. She has extensive experience in both trial and appellate work, not afraid to take on complex or complicated cases. As evidenced by her track record, Maria is a distinguished and trustworthy advocate who will fight passionately for her clients.
For three consecutive years (2016, 2017, and 2018), Maria was named a “Northern California Rising Star” by Super Lawyers. This distinction is based on a peer review process and is awarded to only the top 2.5% of attorneys under age 40 or in practice for less than ten years. Maria graduated magna cum laude from Oregon State University with a Bachelors in science on a full academic scholarship. Her grade point average was in the top 1% of her class, earning her a place on the President’s List. In law school, Maria graduated top of her class with a public interest certificate.
During law school, Maria dedicated over 1200 hours volunteering as a certified legal intern with several non-profit organizations in the Bay Area. As a certified legal intern, she actively litigated cases under attorney supervision from 2007 to 2009. She served as the lead representative on a jury trial, bench trial, and assisted in countless others.
Maria is a member of the California Employment Lawyers Association (“CELA”) and co-chair of CELA’s Public Employees Committee. She holds memberships with the Bar Association of San Francisco, Palo Alto Area Bar Association, San Mateo County Bar Association, and she is on the AIDS Legal Referral Panel. Currently, Maria is co-chair of the Bar Association of San Francisco Barristers’ Labor and Employment section and co-chair of the San Mateo County Bar Association Labor and Employment Law section. Maria also volunteers as a Board Member of the Golden Gate Regional Center, a state-funded non-profit organization serving individuals with disabilities in Marin, San Francisco, and San Mateo Counties.
Maria is a member of The State Bar of California and is licensed to practice before all state courts. She is also admitted to the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Central, and Southern Districts of California.
