Depending on where you are in your case, you may see some delays. Due to COVID19, most trials have been continued (which means rescheduled for another time), and some courts in California have closed altogether. Even when the courts re-open, further delays are expected. So what now?
Your Attorney Is Still Working On Your Case
Just because the courts are closed doesn’t mean that your attorney is not working on your case. Following state guidelines, lawyers are working remotely from their homes to prevent the spread of COVID19. You can still contact our attorneys regarding your case by e-mail, phone, or text. We are still operating client meetings via phone or ZOOM video conferencing. Our staff is still working diligently on behalf of clients during this difficult time.
How Delayed Will My Case Be?
Because of the enormous uncertainty with how long the courts will be closed, we cannot give any timeline estimates at this point. Even outside of court, mediations and depositions are being canceled, rescheduled, and delayed due to people being unable to travel during this time. Rest assured, we are doing everything within our power to fight on our client’s behalf and will be ready immediately when the courts re-open, and things return to normal.
Could I Still Settle My Case?
We are still in communication with insurance companies and adjusters, though we are starting to see delays. While some insurance companies have shut down offices, many adjusters can work from home, and many worked from home already. We’re treating it as business as usual when communicating with insurance companies. We have also heard from other lawyers that insurance companies are starting to intentionally make lowball offers because they know many people are out of work or have hours reduced and need the money. As with every offer, we’ll pass it along to our clients and talk about options. We do not believe that settlements will stop happening, but it may take some more negotiation to get a fair offer.
