Oakland Multi-Car Accident Injures Multiple People

At least one person was seriously injured in a three-vehicle collision on Interstate 580 in Oakland. The crash happened Thursday evening around 3:57 p.m. on eastbound I-580, just west of the High Street off-ramp. A BMW, a van, and another vehicle were involved in the crash.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but it is believed that one of the vehicles may have rear-ended the other two. The impact of the collision caused significant damage to all three vehicles.

At least one person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Their condition is not known at this time.

The crash closed several lanes of I-580 for several hours, but all lanes have since reopened.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Tips for Avoiding Vehicle Collisions

Vehicle collisions can be devastating, causing significant damage and injury. There are a few things you can do to help avoid being involved in a multi-vehicle collision:

  • Obey the speed limit. Speeding is a major factor in multi-vehicle collisions.

  • Leave plenty of space between you and the car in front of you.

  • Don't tailgate. Tailgating is a dangerous habit that can lead to rear-end collisions.

  • Be patient. Don't get frustrated if traffic is slow. Getting angry or impatient can lead to poor driving decisions.

  • If you are involved in a multi-vehicle collision, stay calm and call 911 immediately.

  • If you think you might be injured, seek medical attention immediately.
